What should I wear to my first class?

Athletic clothing is the only thing truly required. For men/boys, a t-shirt and shorts are recommended. For women/girls, a t-shirt and leggings work best. We don’t recommend short shorts or cut offs. We will provide you with a Jiu-Jitsu uniform(gi) for any class that requires one.

A bottle of water and shoes that are easy to slip on/off are also recommended.


What can I expect during my first class?

In your first group lesson you will be partnered with an experienced instructor or senior student. This is done to ensure your safety and to maximize your understanding of the basics. Your instructor will then teach you some fundamental Jiu-Jitsu techniques so that you fully comprehend what Gracie Jiu-Jitsu self defense is all about!

Adult students typically feel confident jumping directly into group classes. However, if an adult or child is feeling a bit apprehensive about stepping onto the mat, we highly recommend trying a 30-minute private lesson.

We guarantee an informative and safely conducted class where you will have fun and instantly be hooked on Gracie Jiu-Jitsu!


How much do Jiu-Jitsu lessons cost?

The first class is 100% FREE for children and women who are interested in our Women’s Self Defense Program. For adults we offer a 2 week trial for only $20. Uniform rentals are included in all trials.

We do not believe in hard sales-pitches or pressuring people to join. If after the trial you are not completely impressed with our academy and choose not to join, all that we ask is for some feedback so that we can continue to improve. We want people to be fully confident in their decision to join our academy with zero reservations.

In your first class we will go over your personal goals and schedule in order to create a training program that best fits your budget and personal needs. Because we offer multiple options students have full flexibility in choosing the memberships that suit their needs.


How often are your Jiu-Jitsu classes held and what is your schedule like?

We offer adult classes 7 days a week, women’s self defense classes twice per week and advanced classes 4 days a week. For personal growth, we recommend adults attend at least 2 classes per week, but 3-4 is optimal. Each of our kids classes are offered TWICE per week.

Do I need to be in shape before I start Jiu-Jitsu lessons?

Many people believe they need to be an athlete in order to participate in Martial Arts. Our entry-level classes are structured for people with little to no experience. Gracie Jiu-Jitsu is based on proper timing, technique and leverage. Students do not need to be in excellent physical condition in order to have success with our program.

Our warm-up portion of the class can be challenging and will definitely increase your endurance and physical fitness levels. However, you are never expected to push yourself to the point of physical exhaustion. There is no need to feel embarrassed or limited by your level of conditioning, age or body type. It is our job to build you up, not break you down.
